The estate of Prince has announced the release of Timeless, a new posthumous album featuring 10 previously unheard recordings spanning nearly 40 years of the music icon’s career.
The collection will be released on 28 August and was unveiled during the annual Prince Celebration 2026 event taking place at Paisley Park and locations across Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Prince estate opens the vault once again
According to representatives for Prince’s estate, Timeless will offer fans a rare look at the artist’s creative development from his earliest recordings through to the final years of his life.
In a statement announcing the project, estate executives said:
“Timeless traces Prince’s remarkable artistic evolution across nearly four decades, from his earliest studio recordings as a teenage prodigy in Minneapolis to one of his final recorded performances.”
The album includes material recorded between 1977 and 2016, showcasing music created across multiple eras of Prince’s career.
Among the unreleased tracks are With This Tear, recorded in 1991, and The Guilty Ones from 2007.
First song from Timeless now available
Fans can already hear a preview of the project with the release of Stone, a previously unheard recording dating from 1995.
The track offers an early glimpse into what listeners can expect from the wider collection, which aims to highlight the consistency and creativity that defined Prince’s work across four decades.
Estate representatives added:
“The collection showcases the extraordinary consistency, curiosity and creative ambition that defined his work throughout his life, offering fans a rare opportunity to hear previously unheard chapters of his creative journey.”
Prince Celebration 2026 brings fans to Minneapolis
The announcement coincides with Prince Celebration 2026, the annual event honouring the life and legacy of the legendary musician.
Held at Paisley Park and venues across Minneapolis, the festival runs until Sunday and features appearances from artists including Chaka Khan and Miguel.
A major free public event is also planned in downtown Minneapolis, where thousands of fans are expected to gather for a city-wide tribute featuring a mass sing-along led by a choir.
Promoters described the event as:
“For the first time ever, downtown Minneapolis becomes a living tribute to Prince Rogers Nelson – where thousands come together, voices united, to celebrate the music and spirit that continues to define a city. This is more than a sing-along. This is a moment.”
A decade after Prince’s passing, new music continues to emerge
Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, died in April 2016 at the age of 57 following an accidental fentanyl overdose.
In the years since his death, his estate has overseen a series of archive releases, deluxe editions and previously unheard recordings from the vast collection of music stored in the artist’s famed vault.
